Fred Kasch: An Inspirational Life

Frederick W. Kasch April 16, 1913 -- April 8, 2008

Fred Kasch lived a wonderful life. Vibrant and wonderfully active until only ten days before he died, Fred confounded us all by his sudden departure. His thousands of friends have, it must be admitted, been somewhat taken by surprise. He was so wonderfully vital that we all thought he would be contributing to our own obituaries rather than vice-versa.

When I arrived on the San Diego State University campus in 1978 as a member of the faculty in Physical Education, and therefore as a colleague of Fred's, he was winding down on his own University career. (He had come to SDSU in 1948, and he retired in 1980.) Fred's contributions to the field of "Adult Fitness" were legendary by then.
